Hello. If I am interested in staying in Belize for 6 months, I believe I will need a Visa. Is this hard to obtain? I have read how to apply for the Visa and how to go about obtaining one, but am I allowed to stay this long if I am not planning on working there or studying there>

Any help is appreciated.

Each month you walk into the immigration office across the street from Fido's, give them your passport, tell them where you are staying, pay the fee and get the stamp. Rate goes up after 6 months I beleive.

You mean we don't have to leave the island to take care of this now? Everything that I've read points me towards Belmopan. Thanks for the info!!

After six months you are required to go to Belmopan for renewal.

Rich Guy and SIN: THANK YOU!!! I did not know you can get a passport renewal on the island. So if I live there for just 6 months, no Visa needed? Do you know the fee each month to renew the passport? Thank you!

BELIZE - *Passport, return/onward ticket and sufficient funds (at least $60 per night) required. Visa not required for stay of up to 30 days. If visit exceeds 1 month, obtain a stay permit from the Immigration Authorities in Belize. AIDS test required for those staying more than 3 months; U.S. test accepted if within 3 months of visit. For longer stays and other information, contact the Embassy of Belize, 2535 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20008 (202/332-9636) or the Belize Mission in New York at (212/599-0233).

I stayed in S.P. in "98 for 8 months I went to the immmingration office on the island every 30 days to have my passport stamped, it was above the police station back then, after 6 months I left, and went to Chetumal for 48 hours , I had no trouble reentering Belize.

I am planning on coming to S.P. again in June to stay 6 months-12 months, I plan to do it the same way this time. I haven't read or been told I can't.

See you there.

ok, so no Visa needed...but some say I have to leave the island to get my passport renewed every 30 days, others say I can do it on the island now. I was just there a few months ago and do not recall hearing this from anyone in San Pedro. Where on the island can this be done??

Their office is apparently now located opposite Fido's (it used to be in The Galleria). I was there for 7 months in 2003. I simply went in to the office in San Pedro, paid the money and my passport was stamped. I always took my return ticket with me...
