We paid $5K US for a year old gas cart from Ultimate.

There may be a good reason for that. Their staff beat the living hell out of their golf carts.

In my opinion you're better to buy new or factory refurbished. It'll save you money in the long run.

Ultimate gave us a warranty and Mr. Larry has honored it. We are very happy with the buggy.

It is important to maintain the carts!

Well I'm glad to hear it, I just see so much abuse of the carts that I'd be afraid to buy one. I'm not meaning to single out Ultimate, most carts take abuse. There was one kid going from operation to operation getting fired each time for what he did to the carts. I've also seen more than a few tourists driving their rentals into the water.

You're right about the maintenance, mine goes in once a month for a full service including oil spray.

Isn't there also a cost to license the golf cart? I remember a thread here about licenses for golf carts and other vehicles. (Not to be confused with a driver's license, don't know if you need one to drive a cart.)

Golf carts are considered vehicles and require a licensed driver. They must have plates, pay an annual fee to the GOB Transport Department and have insurance. Here on the island they must also have an island permit and pay the fee for that. I'm not quoting the amounts as I'm not sure anymore...they seem to go up every year.

Jesse is correct on all the above. I put my application in back in Jan.05 & just got my permit in Aug.05. Only 7 months!!! It is not an over night ordeal. One thing that held me up was you are now required to have a Belizean Drivers License, a US License will not work to get a cart permit. You also have to get an eye examination from a doctor. To get a BZ License you drive on a learners permit for a month & take a written exam. You have to jump threw all the hoops! Good luck.

Hi Bill- I think your plans include living out of electrical power range - if the cart is for transportation from your home to town, you may wish to re-think the choice of vehicle. You can reach out-of-power areas in the south of the island with a golf cart. Power runs about 7 miles north at this time, and getting past that in a cart is going to be rougher on the cart (and you) than that young buck who keeps getting fired.
