I noticed on MTV each day they flash up a notice saying "As of Jan 2, 2006 MTV will not be available on satellite, tune into GM 1 or GM 2" Does this mean we can no longer get MTV here.

ke, you just might want to get Satelite Radio

The cable company will change which satellite they use for access. I've seen that message many times and we never seem to lose the channel. Just wish they would actually have a music station that plays music videos instead of all those mindless reality shows.

I've never understood the need for satellite radio (since we have DSL) when you have sites like launch.yahoo.com where you can program your own music.

I have my satellite radio in the living room, for me, and the dsl in the computer room/homework room for the kids. Do you want to listen to non-stop rap etc!!!! Yuck.

MuchMusic in Canada had a sub-station called Loud, wish they had that here. All rock all the time, no candy a.. music for the masses.

SIN / Thanks for picking out that great Reggae CD for me @ C's. I've got it playing on my car stereo all the time. Some songs actually bring a tear to my eye and make me long for the "island life". I am so glad I got to meet you while we were on AC. We have bought a "casita" 3 miles north of town. Should be done in about 8 months.

Which satellite radio service do you subscribe to. We were thinking about it for our condo.

Which satellite service works in Belize, XM or Sirius? Is there a local dealer? Do you turn on the service before coming to Bze or?

I have XM and it works great on ambergris. You can have the service turned on in the states and just bring the radio with you, put the antenna out and you got awsome radio!! I am not sure if the local stores carry XM but i'm sure someone on the board can answer that.

I think it is more sad to drink myself to a bad liver each night. If they took away alcohol on the island wouldn't you post asking if it is ever returning?

And Loansum, I use XM. Works great - but Scuba Lady, you must use the external anntenae. In a condo you may need to use more than 50 ft of line because you do need to have a clear shot to the sattelite.

MTV is the worst station on the planet.

It is useful sometimes though for comedic relief.

MTV was good when it had this now exstinct thing called -- Music. They should rename the channel "Real World TV" or "Crybaby TV".

I am a huge fan of internet music (especially channels offered through iTunes), plus I have Sirius. Also iTunes has music video downloads for purchase, although I don't see much of a point.

MTV is almost extinct. The whole channel started out as a commercial, music videos are essentially commercials for albums. For the same reason, terrestrial radio stations and traditional music companies are dying. Quite simply, the whole distribution system for music has changed. Digital music distribution, compelling alternative content and most importantly, the live shows are going to keep music alive. There is no more need for commerical "middle-men", like MTV and radio stations.

Related to the Internet music topic, Michael Robertson from MP3.com has done mp3tunes.com. It lets you put your iTunes collection online, and add independent music. Sorta like my.mp3.com if you ever tried that, but with your itunes collection.

I'd have to be one that actually does appreciate some shows too on MTV. There is more than just reality shows, many comedy shows on it too. Punked, Jackass...

One of MTV's latest advertising campaigns is a commercial that says "MTV: We dont play music".

thank goodness...if I want to hear music I don't want to sit on my but on a sofa being lazy watching the TV. Would rather go to a bar, dancing, or concert. Thankful they show a few great and funny shows.

Punk'd was really good the first season. It's not as interesting when they're punking no name celebrities though, which they've been doing lately.
