I'm posting this poll to see how much more per month would people be willing to pay for VOIP. Just my own interest. If the choice is nothing or paying for access what will it be?

Last night I saw an ad for Vonage and it seems a fair compromise to follow that lead and all those with decent internet connnection pay a monthly fee for VOIP such as $50 a month which would include unlimited long distance, local & International calls, call forwarding and link it to your same btl number. Or even a $ figure to cover everhting from dhl to tel service all in one monthly fee
obviously Vonage is doing this for $24.95 per month seem that someting like that is going to be the ultimate solution but Btl will not like that as they will be limited with there income on the outrageous telephone rates but in time they will have to do follow that lead.

Simon, I have the highest speed BTL DSL connection at home and in the office. With sales tax that comes to a total of $1090.00BZE per month. I really don't think I should have to pay BTL extra for a basic Internet service such as VOIP given that BTL have already inflated their monthly DSL charge to 20 times what someone in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe or Asia would pay.

One more point....a few years ago there was no cell phone service in existence in Belize and yet BTL still made whopping profits. I would estimate that cell phone service is now BTL's biggest cash cow, far outstripping land line and Internet services. Even if BTL dropped all their other telecommunications services they'd still make millions on cell phones.
Their VOIP blocking is greed to the nth degree.

Another example is this
for all those Pre paid cell phone owners they get to pay almost 4 times more than a regular cell account .85 cents per min for pre paid .25 for a plan
whats with that they get paid upfront for calls via pre paid calling cards and get paid almost 4 times more for the privelage of prepaying for calls.
additionally if you do not use your minutes that you have PAID FOR on the card they expire in 30 days
another form of robbery courtesy of BTL

I'm not defending BTL at all, I have all the same issues as everyone else does. But given past history BTL is going to get what they want on this issue. Which is why my question was given the two choices of nothing at all or paying more...

Simon, we are already paying more. You're giving in too easily.
