I'm flying in on Friday and the place where I was going to stay is full. I ned somewhere on the mainland in the west, Cayo District?, that is nice, has AC and is close to mountains, caves, etc. Anyone have a suggestion? Blancaneaux is full and Windy Hill has no transport...Marty, ?.......

What about San Ignacio Hotel or Cahal Pech Resort?

Pooks Hill. Lovely spot just outside Teakettle on Roaring Creek with it's own Mayan ruin on site - recently subject to an archeological dig revealing more. I don't think there's ac though and it was no. 3 priority on your list; but if you can get past that it's stunning and close to Tapir Mountain Reserve, ATM, Caves Branch, Zoo, Gaunacaste etc.

Oh, man! I LOVED Five Sisters but it's WAY out there! The waterfalls make it totally worth the trip.

Jaguar Paw is also excellent, in my opinion.

Five sisters is more or less next door to Blancaneaux, so if Grace was interested in Blancaneaux, she will find the location just as lovely - and yes, it is way out there.

Grace,

I know that area as well as anyone. The SA Hotel as improved but frankly is not good value. Cahal Pech Resort has come on leaps and bounds recently. Ask for a good price there as trade in Cayo is very low at the moment.

If you want to have something at a less cost why not try Midas which represents excellent value and is close to town.

Aviod the lodges unless you are prepared to pay the price as they are far from town and you are not able to eat out etc.

E-mail me direct if you want a no frills opinion.

I have done quite a lot of management consultancy at many of the resorts and frankly think The Inn @ Xunantunich takes some beating. I can get you an excellent price there as I do not take commissions etc and you will have sufficient left over to cover a couple of tours etc. Plus they have a pool and is run by very socialable owners.
