I just spent a quick two days on the island. After one day walking around town and biking up and down the island, I sensed something different.... but I thought it had to be my imagination. I kept listening and noticing it, but didn't say anything.

Finally, my buddy with me (who's been twice on the island), said what I was thinking:

"Is it just me, or do more people seem to be speaking Spanish this time around instead of Creole?"

Crazy question, I know, but since we both wondered that, I thought I'd post for your opinions.

FYI, my last two trips were in January and April of this year, and my buddy's last two trips were in January '06 and April '05.

Never noticed that however, many times Creole has sounded like Spanish to me...

Lot's of villagers speak Spanish and we have a ton more villagers here on the Island and aliens from surrounding countries here working in the construction field.

Influx of workers & possibly visitors from other Spanish speaking countries. When I was there at Easter time last year almost all the tourists were from Guatemala, Mexico & other parts of Latin America.
