Green backs and travellers can be used as currency in Belize at an exchange rate of: $2.00 BZ - $1.00 US.

Belize dollars (of course) are also accepted.

And credit card transactions tend to carry a processing fee (5%).

Cheers,

Pay for the "Big" stuff with T-checks or plastic, but have lotsa small U.S. bills for daily survival...like breakfast and beer. Use 5's 10's and occasionally 20's...Try to pay as close to the amount as you can, they will usually give you change in Bze. You'll end up with 25# of Queen Liz's portraits. Can be a long wait if you try to exchange at the airport when you depart.

definately will be sporting alot of 1's and 5's......probably will consider 'rounding up' to reduce coin-age..

also heard some faint grumblings about the condition of the reef-----hopefully unfounded?

Sadly, reefs are in trouble around the world, Bze is no exception.

oh yea----supposedly there is a village market to pick up assorted sundries (bug repellant, sunlotion, toiletries?) rather than pack all that stuff in.....

There are a couple of stores, the one we used most was Chans on middle st. they had pretty much all we needed. If you go straight away from the water taxi to middle st. it is on your left.

Yes, Albert Chans has all the amenities of a actual supermarket but on a smaller scale. What Alan Chans doesn't have, JL's usually do often at a better price.
