Towards the end of May we will arrive in Cancun and intend to bus it down to belize.

It will be our first visit to Central America and I wondered if anyone could offer us advice on places to visit / stay?

NB: We're late 20's, like a drink, have 2 weeks and are on a very tight buget.

My initial plan was to bus directly to Belize City, spend a night here (is this worthwhile). Then head to CC for a few days (any cheap accomodation here?).
Next I was thinking of heading south to Placentia where I heard you can get a boat to Honduras. A few days on the coast here followed by an overland route back to Belize via a few Mayan ruins. (bit sketchy here)

My wife and I will be in CC May 19-25 and we too are in our late 20's. Maybe we can get together for a drink! Do some research on CC, there are lots of places to stay on a tight budget.

A great place to stay is Lorraine's Guest House. It is very affordable. They have cute little yellow cabanah's on the beach with a private dock to use. Double beds/hot showers and hammocks to relax in. Orlando owns the place and he is really nice. He is native to the country so he can give you alot of information. Just ask at the dock when you arrive and someone will take you there. Tell Orlando Becky & Ron from Canada sent you.

there is also a youth hostel near the end of the island where the split is
