#216209 - 06/01/02 01:48 PM CC in Aug? Where to stay? Weather?
Anonymous
I was planning to come in May, but my friends couldnt so we have postponed to Aug. I know its hot, and rainy season but exactly how rainy is it? We are looking for accomodations in the 40-50 per night range, there are 2 or 3 of us.
Heat doesnt bother, since we are from Tx we are used to it.
Thanks!

Don't get me wrong, it rains during rainey season.... just not every day and sometimes only at night. There are lots of accomodations in your price range, check out a couple of these links:

There are more and less expensive accomodations on the Caye. You'll definitely want to make reservations, August is a busy month here.

Hi Texas Princess:

Try this link for a nice three bedroom house that would be able to hold you and your friends www.chateaugiselle.com.

Betito is incorrect is saying that ALL the properties are listed on the caulkercabanas.com website. In fact, the only properties listed on that website are the ex-pat-owned private homes, mostly located south of the village. For a list of other Caye Caulker accommodations, try this: http://www.cayecaulker.org/lodging/index.html

Wendy

What difference does it make if they are expat homes? Sounds like another racial comment to me.

Just so this message board doesn't turn angry, ex pat isn't a racial term, it means for example, a US Citizen now living in another country is called an "ex-patriot".

Agree. Why not just put rental homes? It serves the purpose and doesn't offend.

Lesson taught, hopefully lesson learned!

In one of the replys regarding accomodation in August in Caye Caulker it was stated that reservations are recomended due to it being a busy time of year. My wife and I are coming to Belize for 23 days from the 29th July til August 21. We like to keep our options open when we travel, so rarely make hotel reservations. Are we to understand that when we arrive in Caye Caulker with our typically laid back and spontaneous approach to life that we are going to encounter difficulties finding accomodation? I have been lead to beleive that summer was your low relaxed season. Another reason we are reluctant to commit to reservations is that we like to see what we are commiting to before we commit any hard earned cash. By the way part of the "hard earned cash" bit can be attributed to the fact that only seven weeks ago we were inundated with over four feet of snow and the temperatures got down to minus 20 degrees. (yes We are looking for sympathy) So bring on the hot weather .....maybe it will sustain us in our memories through next winter ....thanks I would appreciate any clarification on the accomodation issue...see you in July/August....TONY

August is the busiest month for Caye Caulker, for the number of people on the island. In August it is a popular destination for Italians, so bring a tent if you dont have reservations, and be prepared for a sand mattress. You could get lucky, or.... not.

I would take my chances on finding a place if I were you. There are lots of places to stay! If you feel more secure making a reservation, make sure that you don't pay for your entire stay, you may be surprised at what you see when you get here vs. what you are actually renting and at what price! If it's only a deposit, that place is secure that you will want to stay, if it's no refund, be careful!!!
