This history part of this site still repeats the myth that the Reyes family was granted the whole island by the Queen. I have a turn of the century map that shows the various Queen's Grants. Mr Reyes received the area curently developed as the village comprising perhaps 10% of the Caye. He began to sell land to families that weren't from here. They were all Mexican citizens except for the Young's -an English sea captain and his East Indian wife.
I guess their decendants are From Here now. Anyone know the year that new foreigners stopped being From Here shortly after they arrived?
