Is Caye Caulker safe for 2 women travelling alone? We have read that Caye Caulker has a higher crime rate than other cayes, we wanted some feedback or give us some perspective on this. Thanks!

Very safe for single female traveler as long as she uses normal senses.

Caye Caulker has a lower crime rate than the only other Caye with a community- Ambergris.Check the court news in the Ambergris paper. Violent crime every week.Muggings and assaults are big news on Caye Caulker because it is so rare.

You must be reading a different version of the Ambergris papers than I do. Violence every week? Right. Now if we want to talk about crime, how about nasty beach boys bothering single females in Caye Caulker???

Now there's a subject you can bounce around.

I don't think there is a beach in Belize that doesn't have nasty boys just waiting to pounce, LOL. It's a given.

LOL
Ahhh....a nasty boy raises his ugly head.

Don't take my word for it...go see for yourself. I invite any white woman to walk on ANY beach in the ENTIRE country of Belize and see if you don't get approached by the local beach dwellers.

Like I said...It's a given!

We visted Caulker in March. Met a very atractive Single white female that was 30 years of age. She was traveling alone. We had dinner with her and she advised that she felt safe on the caye. She advised that she had been approached by guys, but there was nothing much to it. If she was okay by herself, ya'll should be fine.

I am a single female. I have visited CC every year that I was able to since the late 80's. By using basic common sense and practising normal safety precautions you will be fine. If you go looking for trouble - you will find it (anywhere you travel). If you don't, then you will not have a worry. Enjoy CC - I have traveled most of the world and continue to consider my self blessed to have been able to find CC.

Here are some simple rules for traveling:
At night, do not leave your walet or camera near a screen window, if your room has one.
Do not leave your wallet or camera on the beach, even if its wrapped up in a towel and you're snorkeling right in front of it.
When you leave your hotel room, do not leave cash or cameras in plain site.
Always lock your door, no matter what.
Do not give any cigarettes or free beers to the local boys, you'll be stuck with them for the remainder of your trip (oh oh, I know this comment will get me into trouble now)
Use the same rules here as you would anywhere and you'll be fine.
Caye Caulker has almost as many police officers on this little island as they do in all of San Pedro. They even have a special branch that is specifically trained for tourists.

C'mon,

i admit that i am not a local so i can't pretend to be a expert. but from my time as a single gal on the island, the attention one gets from the "nasty" (that would not my word choice) beach boys is not offensive and you decide what your interactions with these guys will be. even though i work(ed) in tourism, i never felt the need to caution woman about their personal safety (as long as they are making smart decisions) with these guys - only that they should keep their hearts in a safe place.
