It depends on how you enter the country, how many people in your group and what time you are arriving to recommend the best ride to Caye Caulker.
To fly from the international airport its approx 94bzd each way to Caye Caulker, and a 15 minute spectacular ride.
From the municipal airport its 54 bzd each way, but add on the cab ride from the international airport, which is about 35-40 bzd for the whole cab (not per person) and a 15 minute ride.
The water taxi is 25 bzd round trip, but add into the cost the cab ride (approx 40 bzd each way) te trip takes about 45 minutes by water. The last boat leaves Belize City from the Marine Terminal at 5:30
If you are traveling with even a small group
its more economical to use the water taxi.
If you use the search feature in this forum, you'll read quite a bit of discussion on this topic.

Silkpainter is totally correct, as she usually is, with her response. The one thing of interest I want to note is that the price for the water taxi is set to go up on Monday, to $15 U.S. per person r/t, or $9 U.S. per person, one way. Fuel in Belize is EXPENSIVE.

Cheers,
Wendy

Water Taxi - 45 minute open boat ride: $7.50 US per person ( One Way )

From BZE International Airport - Add taxi cab fare to Belize City: $17.50 US / 1-2 people; or $5.00 US per person / 4 people or more.

Flights from the BZE International Airport are every hour - 15-20 minute flight time: $46.50 US per person ( One Way )

Thanks for all your help.
There will be 4 of us travelling in May and we will be landing at Belize International. Can we make up our minds when we get to the airport or do we have to pre book the flights? will it be cheaper for 4 of us?

It is so much easier to fly in. Face it you are going to be tired after a long jet trip, possibly dressed in inappropriate attire, hauling all your luggage and anxious to get to your destination.

It is easier to just clear customs and walk right back into the airport ticket counter and buy your ticket on Tropic or Maya Island Air. With ticket in hand relax with a cold Belikin beer or refreshing Rum Punch at Jet's bar in air conditioned comfort while you wait for your hopper flight.

Yes, flying is slightly more expensive but so much more efficient. Fly if you can spare the extra few bucks. The scenery is great.

You can take the water taxi on your return from the caye to the mainland if you feel like you missed some adventure.
