Hi Biggy:
This year for the first time a few select restaurants were allowed so sell previously frozen legal lobster off season (Feb. 16 - June 14). It created quite a furor (and I have to say I am against the practice), because it creates the hazard of bootleg lobster fishing at a time when the season is closed. I believe it is a direct affront (and threat) to the livelihoods of dozens of Caye Caulker lobster fishermen (and hundreds of lobster fishermen countrywide).
The practice may or may not be approved again for 2004. I don't know. This was a pilot project that started this year alone, and it is yet to be seen if the fisheries dept. will allow the practice again next year considering the furor it created.
That's my best answer to you. Have a great day!
Cheers,
Wendy
