I booked the plane reservations today for a stay on Caye Caulker beginning Sept. 22 through Oct 2. I sure hope the weather cooperates, which brings me to a few questions. In the event of really bad weather, what happens? Are we transported to the mainland, do we have to make new arrangements for accomodations, are we on our own, do we have to pay for accomodations again or do we get a refund for any unused portion of our trip?
Are the mosquitos a problem on the leeward side of the island? There's a place to stay there that interest me.
Any recommendations as to accomodations? Our requirements are: AC (just in case it's too hot), a queen bed or larger, a covered area to get out of the sun/rain in order to relax/read, coffee, and a good rate for 10 nights would just be icing on the cake.

Thanks in advance for any input,

I'll include my email address if anyone want's to communicate privately.

Popeyes has everything you are asking about. They have queen beds, air cond., and a large thatch on the seawall to hang hammock, read and get out of weather. They would also transport you to the mainland in case of bad weather. You can reach them at

I would try Axuilou Beach Suites. They are air-conditioned and have a seperate bedroom with a king size bed!
