Hi,

I am comming to Caye Caulker soon and wonder when I read that you need to walk on a peer to go swimming. Can t you just go from the beach to the water? Are the beaches private or public? Do you have a good recommadation for a good (at the beach, private bath) but relativly cheap hotel? Last but not least are there ATM s or Europeans Maestro ATM s in Caye Caulker to withdraw money?

Thanks a lot,

Felix

Most piers are public, although if its posted private, please be considerate of the owner's wishes. The beaches are public, but in my opinion, the best swimming is at the "Split" at the north end of the island, where there is a channel dividing it in 2. Its about a 15 minute walk (north) from the Water Taxi pier.
There are no ATMs on Caye Caulker, but there is an Atlantic Bank that you can get a cash advance from your Visa card. Most of the larger hotels and restaurants accept credit cards, although American Express is not widely accepted, Visa and Mastercard is, with preference given to Visa Cards.
When you say "budget" for accommodations... what is your buget per night?

Thanks for the answer.
My budget for a hotel with private bath is maximum 35 US Dollars per night. Cheaper would be good too if it is a acceptable room with private bath. Are there rents for windsurfing near the split?
Thanks,

Felix

Ahhhh well--yeah the beaches are not great--but really nice people and enormous papayas and safe enough to let your young teens have a bike and be ON THEIR OWN! Food is just regular--but what a cool place to spend a week-between the great swimming at the split and some snorkeling and cold beer-quiet time in a hammock and no cars--well worth a quiet friendly time.

Muddy ? i have never seen mud, i have seen sea grass though. CC isn't for everyone, and that's good. If everyone loved it as i do there would be too many people. It is already getting busy.....but still a very nice place to chill out...
