I'll be spending two nights in CC this August. I'm looking for recommendations on places to stay that cost between $50 - 70 double. Right now my top choice is De Real Macaw. Any comments on that place? Any other places you would recommend I check out? Will I need a reservation? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Mara's place is great!!! THe only problem is that they do not take reservations but then again most hotels on the island don't.

I would add Rainbow Hotel and Tropical Paradise to your list. Rainbow is north from the water taxi dock on the left side of Front St. Tropical is south on Front St. all the way at the end (you cannot miss it).

As for making reservations, for a 2 night stay, you probably won't need one. Most hotels/houses/rooms do require a deposit on stays for a week or longer.

If you are thinking of going to Caye Caulker DON'T. The people on the island want nothing more than to rip you off. The island itself is great but the people there are nasty. The police are just as bad as the local people. Just my experience.

Everyone has different points of view. Most problems are generated by the attitude of the visitor. I've never seen a problem.

I'm heading back to CC for the 3rd time in August! I stayed at Tropical Paradise for 14 days last trip - am staying there again and love it! Contact them directly...don't go through an agent...it will be cheaper.

P.S. I would disregard safetyguy3...I've read most of his comments on the various CC message board topics and have yet to find one that I agree with.
