I will be staying in El Remate, Guatemala (near Tikal), Cahel Pech (near San Ignacio) and Caye Caulker. I am staying in hotels/cabanas the whole time (average not high end). I am wondering what the chances are of finding bugs in my rooms (or other creatures)?

I have stayed all those places, El Remate is beautiful. We had no bug problem. However that all depends on the weather, time of year and other conditions. Just because we had no bugs dosnt mean their arnt any bugs, but I certainly wouldnt worry about it. Just carry insect repellant.

Remember that the best repellent is light loose long sleeve cotton clothing including socks, and a smart attitude about strolling when and where the bugs aren't as numerous. Nearly every local everwhere you go uses this method in a natural way.

My girl Linda again. Tikal is the BOMB. I mean seriously it will blow your mind.

Bugs in the jungle won't give you half the trouble of the sand fleas on the cayes. Rat bastards! They will eat you alive. Use Deet (REI Jungle Juice is 100%). Also lavender oil (dab in your hair), B12 (in supplement or raw papaya), and garlic help repel mosquitoes and fleas.

Bugs in your room I highly doubt. You can also bring a mosquitoe net to drape around your bedding.

Anyway, they are part of the natural wonders of the land. You will encounter bugs along your journey, you just don't see at home. The ants there are really tiny for example. Bugs the mind!
