I wanted to get some info about CC we are thinking of coming in the next few months and love what it looks like, we are mainly coming to stay there so we can go on an excursion to see the ruins, and enjoy some laid back island living! What tips do you have? Do you go there alot? and which of you live there that are on here?
Hi I don't know how much time you have but you might consider splitting your trip between Caye Caulker and someplace near San Pedro. You can tour the ruins from CC but spend a lot of time travelling.
We split our last 9 day trip between the islands and the "jungle". Trip report and photos from both can be found on www.AlandSueJohnson.com if you're interested.
My wife and I are going on 5 months living on da Caye. I highly recommend using Caye Caulker as a island home base. Go to San Pedro for a day, that is generally enough. Other than all water-based activities, you can go to the Altun Ha Mayan Site from here with Anwar Tours (great trip). If you get tired of the island life and want to switch to jungle, go out to the Cayo district (San Ignacio town) for a few nights. Cross into Guat for a day to do some shopping at the markets. You can get to SI from CC by water taxi to the city and then bus or rental car (2hr ride from the city).
You must dive the atols if your coming. That is the best diving in the world and much more interesting than the ruins. Try Paradise Down for the trip. they are great
