Hey folks,

We're having a bug problem at our house. After a few hours of research, we think they are probably "blister beetles". They don't bite or get into our food, but if they are smashed against the skin, they do leave a blister (hence the name). Please see the link for a picture to get an idea of what they look like:

They are dormant during the day, and actively attracted to the lights in our apartment by night. We have used bug killing spray on them and it works, but then another 100-200 of them come back the next night. We are looking to permanently remove them. Please post any ideas you may have...

Do you live in a wooden home? If so, they might be termite-like little critters that somehow appear when it is about to rain. They are also seasonal, not sure why. It is mostly a malady to wooden homes. Not sure how to get rid of them without fumigating the house.

Thanks and cheers,

We live in a new ALL concrete house by the airstrip.

We thought they might be mites or weevels at first, but they aren't going for the food. Someone recommended a neon bug zapper, since they are attracted the light. Anyone know where I can get one? I don't understand how they eat...

Some bugs have no mouth and die without eating in the flying stage. They will pass away like Wendy says with the season. You may want to tighten the screens up a little and think about how the outdoor lights are located and switched. We use motion detector switches on outside lights. Your place is the brightest on the block, which how we avoid them-they are all at your place.

It goes without saying -we wear long, loose, light cotton clothing around the house when they are in season

We have the blister bugs, they are attracted to light. They will go away we have never had them for more than 4 or 5 days at a time. We get sand fleas, misquitos, noisy birds, cute little lizzards and big ones. but then the alternative would be to move back to the States etc. So I have learned to live with my many new friends.

try Boric Acid. It is a powder that you spread around your foundaion inside and out in a 1/2" line. The bugs walk through it and carry it back to their leir and share it with their friends. The acid eats them from the belly up. It works for roaches real well.

Actually the blister beetles have already moved on. There were indeed seasonal and hopefully have moved on until next year. Thanks everyone for their kind advice.
