It's usually no problem to bring healthy pets into Belize. You'll need a certificate from a vet that your animals are free of infectious disease (signed not more than 48 hours prior to arrival in Belize). Also they must be certified as having vaccinations against rabies.

Keep in mind that in Belize a lot of stray dogs have mange and other diseases such as veneral diseases. Some dogs have problems adjusting to the sub-tropical climate and local insects.

Would add that one vet I've heard recommended in Belize is Dr. Michael Deshield. He's in Belize City at 011-501-23-3781. There is also a woman in Corozal Town who has been recommended to me, but I can't seem to find the contact info for her. I don't believe there's a vet in San Pedro.

To bring pets on the island you need to show proof of vaccinations and health papers. Animals must be accompanied by a certificate of freedom from infection/contagious disease by a veterinarian following examination not more than 48 hours prior to shipment; animals must also be certified as having been vaccinated against rabies not less than one month nor more than six months prior to departure; and must be free of open wounds. Dogs must have a valid certification of vaccination against distemper, parvovirus, infectious canine hepatitis and leptospirosis. Animals may be required to be re-vaccinated against rabies on arrival if certifications are deemed unsatisfactory.
