Hi All

Due to the rain we have been experiencing more than usual dampness in our apartment. Enough to make wall paint bubble in one spot.

I was wondering if anyone has any good tips / tricks (other than a dehumidifier unless you have a cheap or free one lol)

A friend in Canada did recommend getting bbq charcoal and breaking it up into bits and placing containers full around our apt this was to help take the damp smell from the air and it did work well. (You need to stir the containers up occasionally)

Sin is right, a/c is the only solution. Select the LOWEST fan speed. All else are vexations of the spirit.

Hi Tacogirl:

Our hardware stores carry these plastic containers of silica pellets that absorb moisture from the air. Can't think of any brand names. I've used them in small spaces that are susceptible to mildew and they've worked quite well. These also absorb odors.

DampRid is one product--works well in closets and such. AC is the best solution.

We also brought some damprid down to use it in a closet where we keep some clothes etc. and it works great, However we are not on the ground floor. We also use damprid in our boat cabin area and there is never any musty odor. I think I saw some in Captain Sharks in October, It costs about $6.00US or so in the states.

Thanks all

while we do have air conditioning in our bedroom we rarely use it as I just hate being cold lol Pretty much used it only at night in the heat of august. We use our standing fan more so. The other pro of that is cheap hydro bills.

I will check into damp rid and see if I cna find silica pellets.

If all else fails I guess we will use our ac a bit more (said reluctantly)

Fans work well and are much cheaper to run.
