Hi,

I am planning a vacation to Belize - Ambergris Caye.
I am looking for a decent Resort or Hotel in San Pedro, that would have nice beachfront for swimming.
I have read somewhere, that not all beaches are clear and perfect for swimming, some have seagrass or other problems.
I can't afford Resort like Banyan Bay Villas, it's too pricey, but something along $160-$180 a night will do.

Thanks!!

Banana Beach - one of the best beaches on the island (they all have seagrass) great rooms, great staff, restaurant and bar on site, full breakfast included in price.

I've read about Banana Beach, that it has seagrass and impossible to swim in there.
Is it the same for all resorts on the island?

I would strongly urge you to look at Matta Rocks. It is right next to Banana Beach. It has a great beach bar and the beach itself slopes gently to the water. There is some sea grass but as others have said, the grass is just about everywhere. The beach a Banana Beach has a sea wall that requires you to walk around (just a short distance) to get to the water.

We are repeat visitors and can tell you that the service is albsolutely great at Matta Rocks. Banana Beach is larger but in our opinion the smaller, more intimate feelings that are associated with Matta Rocks are more to our likeing.

Long and short of it is that all of the places listed by the others are nice and you will have a great time where ever you decide to stay.

I'd echo the Xanadu choice- been there last year and couldn't get in this year, dang! Depending on when you plan to visit, rates can be as low as $160 for a loft. They're a bit of a hike from town (but walk-able all the same)-- we believe that makes the place a quiet retreat. Their beach is beautiful and very well kept. Terrific pool, great service from owners and hosts, who will arrange all excursions and taxis etc for you quickly and efficiently. Good snorkeling off their lengthy dock. Free use of bicycles during the day, and the all-important BACK UP gen-set for when the power conks.

We stayed in a 2BR garden view and were very pleased with the quiet, the efficient AC, the well-appointed kitchen, the roomy showers and great water pressure, the fun hammock hung on our little patio, the landscaping, the friendly staff and the closeness to restaurants and SP town. We were treated like family and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

There is nothing wrong with swimming over sea grass. There are actually very interesting critters that live there. I'm not sure what kind of sea grass you are adverse to, but this eel grass is not offensive - at least to me.
