what is the best way to go about obtaining a job on the island. i have my captain license for fishing charters, but does it make a difference in belize? any info would be appreciated greatly

Wow! There have been many inquires about jobs in SP lately... I know it's a long complicated process. Perhaps a search on the top right side might provide for detailed assistance.

Tough job field to get into. Even though you may be highly qualified, the fishing guide thing is a very protected indusrty here by the locals.

doesnt one need to be belizean or at least have residency to be a divemaster or guide?? that was my understanding b4. curious myself...what about property management or a chef?

I believe to be a divemaster or guide, you need a special tour guide license and they don't give those out to any Joe Shmoe who wants one. A gringo moving here to be a fishing guide or divemaster, forget it. Its not going to happen...legally anyway. Property Managers just need a work permit or residency, same as a chef. But a chef will also need to get the ok from the health department.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Any employer proposing to hire a non-Belizean must prove to the satisfaction of the Labor Dept. that they have advertised and made an effort to find a Belizean for the job.

thanks for the info, since a guide appears to be out for the time being, what do most americans do for work?
