I'm student form Germany and i like to visit Belize this summer to do a volunteer job. I'd like to work in a organisation or a project that is releted with nature conservation or ecotourism. Maybe some of you know opportunities to do such a volunteer work on Ambergris Caye or somewhere else in Belize.
The Holy Cross School is always looking for help. I don't know what they do over the summer, but if you want to work with underprivelaed kids and make a difference in their life, go volunteer at Holy Cross.
I don't think you're going to find anything to work on having to do with ecotourism or nature conservation on Ambergris Caye, but I'm sure there's lots of it on the mainland.
Micks I can look into that for you on lodging. Right now they are not set up for it but maybe they could over summer.
If you wanted to check out green reef I do not have a link you may be able check some dive shops and see if there is any reef conservation volunteer work.
I did do splash for trash and helped to clean up around pro tech dock.
Thanks for your answers. PACT and Green Reef are very interesting. I'll will contact them, also the Audobon society. Thanks Amanda ! Hope they need a volunteer worker this summer. If you have any other ideas for volunteer work, even in other parts of Belize or in different Organizations, please tell me. I'm really looking forward to visit Belize.
I know its nitpicking, but believe it's really the Yacht Club Dock--and their "trash in the splash". Unless things have changed, Protech is the unfortunate tennant.
This is true but many people participated, I just happened to Volunteer at Protech cause I know Pedro2 and he is a nice guy. I just said protech dock cause they are there but you are right.
I do not think that BYC would have done the splash for trash.
The town library runs a summer arts program for local students and we need volunteers to help with the kids. We do art projects, go out to the reef for material, and try to engage the kids in fun activities. The summer is one of our busiest times and many of our voluteers head back to the states for summer holiday.
Me and my friend are coming down from June 8th - July 4th/5th. Let me know what you guys need. We're currently fundraising (selling basketball tickets) and would have around $500 to spend on supplies, books or whatever for the kids in San Pedro and hoping to help out with the Cayo Deaf Institute as well. Does anyone know how we could contact them?
hey! where will you stay in San Pedro ? get an appartment or stay in a hotel ? i dont know if thats so cheap there. Let me know how you are doing this, cause i want to go there as well.
@Jan: du hast eine gute Idee, aber hast du schon alles geplant? warst du schon mal dort ?
hey don't know if you are still looking or have ever seen this b4, but go to http://www.belizenews.com/ click on Belize First link and then scroll down to link for page describing volunteer opportunities in Belize - there are a lot of things listed there!
I am looking into doing some Adoptions from Belize. Does anyone know here if US Citizens can adopt from Belize. I have read the family law and it looks like it is possible. I place many school age deaf children from Ethiopia and I would like to open another program and I am looking at Belize. I am sure there are orphans that need homes. We place mostly school age children and deaf children. I need a referral to an attorney that can handle family law in Belize. Anyone know of anything about adopting in Belize? Thanks Mary
Most of the kids that I know that were adopted were not "in the system." It is a little nerve wracking and certainly Belizean parents are often preferable. But the orphanage in Belize city has about 60 kids that would desperately love to have a home and a family environment.
Foster parents are often more needed than adoptive parents.
We have found that there are quite a few immigrants that are willing to give up their kids - in the hopes that the children will experience a much more stable life than the one the biological parents can provide.
Belize has really been trying to increase their pool of foster parents over the last year. But as Amanda said, those kids are already in the system and as much as you fall in love with them, Belize is not predisposed to adoption to non Belizean families.
We always need volunteers at the public library. We run a summer program that focuses on environmental issues. We do art classes and day trips. Have story telling and tutoring. It is a great way to work with local members of the community
I am curently in the process of buying a house with my friend who qulifies for the QRP(qulified retired persons/program) but I am to young all my housing and board will be provided for me, my question is can I get a self employed work permit and volunter for say the saga socity or somthing like that and still meet the requriments for the self employed work permit? Are you coming in under the QRP with your friend or as a separate person? If you are separate it is possible. You might want to contact SAGA ahead of time and maybe they can be of help.
