Human activities in Honduras account for 80 percent of sediments and 50 percent of pollutants that wind up in the coastal waters of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, according to an analysis by the World Resources Institute. Guatemala contributes slightly more than 15 percent of the sediments and about 25 percent of the nitrogen and phosphorous; Belize and Yucatan Mexico's contributions are minimal.
