Am planning a trip to Belize, and was going to use AC as a "home base" for our stay. We're "budget" travelers, but want to do as much as possible while we're in Belize. Are most things pretty accesible from here, or is there enough to do on AC to keep us busy for 8 days? Am planning to dive, sea kayak, snorkel, and of course spend some quality time relaxing in a hammock by the beach! Thanks for your help!

Hi Stacey! I've been reading all about Belize for months! We leave on Friday for 2 weeks! I think everything is pretty accessible from Ambergris but the tours are not cheap. They do have some very low cost accomodations on the island and you can spend more for tours. You will have plenty to do! Belize it!

We came back June 4th. The variuos trips, ie. cave tubing, jungle treks, are pretty pricey. about 75.00 per person on up. We rented sea kayacks from ramons, it was 20.00 for 2 hours. Bike rental seemed pretty resonable. They did negociate with us on the price. Lots of great places to eat cheap. try El Patio. We stayed at the Palms Condo. Very Nice 1 bedroom plus a den area that had a twin bed in it. AC in the bedroom. again they did nego price with us. They have a great location so you save on water taxi fares. You can book thru the internet. [email protected]

We dove everyday 45.00 for two tanks dives thru amigoes del mar.

We just got back also and went with very little money. Our priority was saving money for drinks and fishing. We did however do a day trip to Belize through a tour group called Sea-rious. If you decide to do a tour, it's well worth the money. It's a full day 8am to about 5. For $65/person we rode on a great boat to the mainland, did about a two hour tour through a river in the jungle, bus ride, homemade cookies, fresh mangos, free drinks of all kinds, mayan ruin tour, horseback riding and swimming at a spa. Lunch is on you but my husband and I split grilled Snapper at the Jungle spa and was incredible! Except for lunch, everything else is included in that fee. You are worn out and tired by the time you get back.

Other tours are more expensive by about $10/person. We were not able to do them. If you look up in the paper and on AC web site, lots to do at bars and hotels. Chicken drop Wed. nights you can watch and have fun for free. Holiday hotel had a wonderful barbque Wed. nights for about $6 for a plate of great food. Happy Hour can be found almost any hour of the day at various bars. One suggestion - Ramon's Rum Punch is NOT worth the money! Lots of parties everywhere, local dive and tour shops have a soccer tournament about once/twice weekly in front of Sunbreeze hotel. Rec. the REEF for a full plate of food (in town) and wonderful cool sand between your toes for a resonable price. Fried snapper at a little shack towards the lagoon side of town called the Corner is wonderful and cheap!
Walk through Ramons is wonderful just for the view, lay in the hammock above the bar at Sunbreeze, sit on the huge pier at night at Ramons, take a walk around where the locals live in back of town - wonderful people there!
have fun!
