I've been nearly run down by some fast golf carts in San Pedro, but apparently there's an entirely new world of golf cart performance out there.

Several recent articles, including a front-page story in the Wall Street Journal today, talk about extreme golf carting.

Folks soup up their carts, taking a US$2000 (used) cart and adding $5000 in performance enhancements -- snowmobile engines, 27" wheels, 96-volt batteries, etc.

The high-performance carts can hit 50 to 70 mph.

Sounds like something to watch out for on Coconut Drive.

We need a SPGCRA series down here to run races, send details on how we can get the parts. Dirt tracking at the old football field should bring in some good crowds!

I suspect they'd need much longer travel suspension to cope here

Help out the repair guys and make it an endurance race on the road North. Or almost any other road in town.
