I've been nearly run down by some fast golf carts in San Pedro, but apparently there's an entirely new world of golf cart performance out there.
Several recent articles, including a front-page story in the Wall Street Journal today, talk about extreme golf carting.
Folks soup up their carts, taking a US$2000 (used) cart and adding $5000 in performance enhancements -- snowmobile engines, 27" wheels, 96-volt batteries, etc.
The high-performance carts can hit 50 to 70 mph.
Sounds like something to watch out for on Coconut Drive.
