I'm looking to specifically video dolphins leaping and playing at the surface for a film project. Could anyone tell me of any good places and if this is a regular occurence in the waters of Belize ? Are there regular boat trips ? Thanks in advance.
one fellow says : Your chances are just as good of seeing Elvis leaping and playing at the seas surface. Jimmy Hoffa is seen in this area as much as spinner dolphins are.
Best bet would be the BHDC overnight trip....the boat is slow enough that sightings of Atlantic Spotted Dolphins are common...these are probably the spinner dolphins he's referring to. The new owners of Blue Hole Dive Center saw about 30 in one pod last week on the overnighter!
It's not possible to swim with these dolphins during the overnight trip as the boat is inevitably on the move. Sometimes divers are lucky enough to do a local dive off Ambergris and see them at the safety stop at the end of the dive....for some reason they almost never appear until then.

I was on AC from 6/9 thru 6/18. Only saw dolphins twice, despite being on the water daily. Once on the north end of Caye Caulker and once near the manatees near Belize City on the return trip to AC. The first sighting was a single dolphin and the 2nd was a small group, 3 to 5. I'm from Nags Head, NC & used to seeing tons there on a daily basis.
Have your guide take you to the channel by Mosquito Caye where the sugar barges pass a few times a day. It's behind Ambergris Caye, headed toward the mainland. We always see dolphins there in the wakes of the barges
