At least for the past 3 weeks it has been impossible to call Portofino Resort from Europe and often from the US. When you call the number you typically get a message saying that the number is not in service, although other messages are also possible.

BTL, the telephone company advises callers to use the local operator to get through, although that also keeps failing from Europe. This has been a regularly recurring problem over here, and we ask people that want to get in contact with us to do so by email, as telephone is unreliable and it seems that there will be no solution for this problem.

Fax line is now totally down too. The telephone line still is still unreachable from abroad and BTL the Telephone Company does not know how to solve the problem. We have asked for the same number on a different system, but that is also not possible.

The only way to reach us now is by email until Tuesday, when the Telephone Company is open again, and they can hopefully fix at least our fax line.

We are reporting this situation to inform our potential guests not to give up to easily. It's still a little piece of paradise here over here!

Sunrise Realty, located in San Pedro Town, has had similar problems with the main line. Cell phones within the country of Belize can't get through to us on a regular basis. When we reported the fault the BTL spent a long time on it with no resolution.

We get emails constantly asking why we aren't answering our phones.

We have had a real struggle to receive Intl. faxes for several years. Fax rings but sometimes it won't pick up the tone, even manually. Until recently I thought the problem was our machine or line but we have moved house and got a new fax machine - extreme measures I know - and still the problem persists.

Anyone else? If, as seems probable, there are others in the same boat perhaps we should unite and uprise. Still won't get our faxes, but it might be fun.

get a fax service... lots of them around, and your faxes are delivered via email or log on to pick them up.

Sadly you have altogether missed the point - and this is probably why companies like BTL get away with offering the service they do for the money they charge.

The reason we use fax is it is a secure transmission method for customers credit card information, and email is not.

And since we pay such high fees to BTL we really detest having to buy yet another subscription to yet another service that we have to then incorporate into our marketing etc a year in advance.
