Ambergris Caye Chamber of Commerce
Chamber Meeting Minutes of April 26, 2007
Recorded by Charmaine Tolentino and Written by Tom Vidrine, President.
1) No show of Traffic Chairman
Our guest speaker, Pablo Sosa, the Chairman of the Traffic Committee, cancelled at the last minute. Our members have been asking for information in many areas: Ticketing, traffic changes, and information on the vehicle census. There have been many complaints and questions on what are the fine amounts for various infractions. Questions on when the parking signs will be replaced. The discussion centered on getting more information out to tourists since few violations have been ticketed in the past, and many people are under the misconception that driver’s licenses are not needed, that there was no enforcement of speeding limits, parking, or driving under the influence. Josie Nunez reported that the golfcart rental companies were notified by the Mayor’s office that rules were going to be enforced, and she said both the rental companies and resorts need do a better job informing tourists of our regulations. With the street paving, many of the one-ways and parking rules are being violated, and maybe there should be some leeway given during this process. It was also mentioned that it has become common that parents are allowing their underage children to drive.
