Ask anyone who has survived one or waited to see where landfall would be and they'll probably say, "Too often." Every yearly season it's a new ballgame where it concerns hurricanes.
NOAA archives have a detailed history of Atlantic hurricanes on their site, where they formed, meandered and finally made landfall.

The last hurricane to hit AC was in 2000, but there has been collateral damage from high water caused by other more recent ones - Wilma did quite a lot of dock damage. The last hurricane before 2000 was only two years earlier, so currently it's looking good!
statistly hurricanes hit here every 20 yrs, That info dosnt mean much as anything can happen, we got 2 in a row 2000 & 2001, I moved here in 2001 and have seen the water level rise 3 times to do some beach and road damage, I evacuated only once and did not need to, we did not get anything, no wind or any bad weather. Historically hurricanes have usually hit here in Oct. The water temp warms up and their courses change.

No mention of Belize or even Central America, let alone AC, but pundits are expecting a very bad hurricane season:- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml;jsessionid=K5BRMKID2F5KBQFIQMGSFFWAVCBQWIV0?xml=/money/2007/05/24/cnhurricane24.xml
I seem to recall they predicted a bad year last year as well. I don't mean to advocate a lack of vigilance, but I wish forecasters would acknowledge their failures as well as their successes. All in all, be prepared and, in the meantime, you're in SP--be happy!!
