Can we go to other cayes from AC without pre-arranged reservations? And what are other cayes nearby that people enjoy for snokeling and decent food?

Caye Caulker is a popular stop. No need for reservations. There are power boats and sailing trips available daily. The best food EVER is at the Sand Box on Caye Caulker. A definate must. When conch was in season, the fritters were to die for. Everything else on the menu is superb. Caye Caulker is VERY laid back. Quite charming.

Cay Caulker was a good stop. We ate at the Paradize Resturant. Very good also. South Watercaye is a very nice Caye. It's father south than Cay Caulker. Don't know about day trips there since we were sailing. Mac and Jennifer are the owners of the International Zooligical Expedition (IZE) which are located center of the Island. Can call ahead for dinner reservations. Buffet style and very good. Probably one of the nicest Cays that we visited. Did some night snorkeling there with a guide. Seen octopus, lots of shrimp, lobster, crabs, toad fish, flounder& ect... very very good day and night snorkeling. I liked it better than Hol Chan Marine--District B. Can give you e-mail address for them if you want to e-mail [email protected]. Placenia was a disaappointment.Only good thing was going to John the Bakerman's for cinnamon buns(Best we had ever had, this is what he is known for on Placencia. They also have the well known mile long sidewalk. Rendezvous Cay has some nice snorkeling and they do have day trips there because while we were there a boat came and they were BBQ-ing and snorkeling. Seen lots of fish and beautiful corals. This is just a Cay with sand and trees. No one lives there. Seen lots of Dolphins during the 10 day sail from San Pedro to Plancenia. Got as close as 10 feet in the water with them at Colson Cay. Was about 8 of them in that group. Usually ran in groups of 2-4. Tabacco Cay was little but interesting.People nice. Stayed a few hours and sailed on. Said that the current was strong that day for snorkeling. Lagoon Cay was not good for snorkeling that day for us. About all we saw was star fish. Very cloudy. That's about all I have. Sorry it was so long.

If you want to take the water taxi to Caye Caulker and snorkel or dive, take the earliest taxi there because most snorkel trips leave at 9:30 or 10 a.m. a the latest. Have you checked out http://www.cayecaulker.org ?

HI,
Caye Caulker is the closest, but you could also visit Caye Chapel. A favorite of mine is Sargent's Caye-gorgeous. Close by Sargent's is Paunch Caye and a bit south is Goff's Caye. But these would be full day trips. I like the Caye Caulker trip on the Me Too, a catamaran with Hustler Tours. There are some other options, depends on how much time you have and how much you want to spend.
