ok, need to decide this week where to stay. id like to try journeys end. done ramones, want a great place with a restaraunt, bar, and dive shop there for me. is this the place to stay? thanks
I met some folks who were staying there and they had a lot of mosquito problems. Also, I don't think there is air conditioning if that is an issue for you. They ended up moving closer to town. Of course, this is 2nd hand info.--nat
The mosquito problem is abound on the northern part of the island, unless of course the hotel sprays for them. Many resorts will tell their guests that they spray very early in the morning before they awaken. I would be careful of such places. Personally I would stay either in town or closer to town where the town sprays on a regular basis.
The cabanas at Journey's End are air conditioned... both oceanview and pool/garden cabanas.
denny, i know who you are and its nice for you to write after leaving there. do they spray at JE? i bet you know the answer! it is the first i'm hearing of mosquitos there. i want to stay this august and have to reserve now. wish someone had told me sooner....
Tropica Beach Resort has a restaurant and bar and pool. They are supposed to have a dive shop now. But if they do not, they do have a pier/dock and dive shops will pick you up by boat there. It was very easy. Nice place and it is about a mile or so south of town.
wanted to say i'm going to try journeys end anyway and i'll let you all know how it goes next month. thanks for your responses. they were really helpful. see you there!
Yes....Tropica is a nice little place and they do now have a dive shop. I believe Grant that used to be with Amigos Del Mar is running it....and if so.....it should be top notch. They have a nice beach area and a pool. I can smell their breakfast cooking when I pass by on my way to work......yummmm! They are reasonable on prices also.
JaneinPA Jane, We spent a week at Journeys End and really enjoyed it. At that time they only had the JE restaurant. Now there is a great restaurant next door which gives you a choice without going all the way into town. thanx ol'gator. got your reply on belize board too and checked out your pix few weeks ago. going to give JE a try, jonathan has been helpful there. wish me luck...how were the mosquitos?
We stayed a week at JE a few years ago, and had a wonderful time, love the place. No problem with moskies at JE, but take your own spray DEET just incase.
Being a few years back, we took JE food plan. But now there are so many good restaurants out that way, I probably would not take the food plan. JE has a nice swim up bar and grill for lunch. We did enjoy their food. Our room was back on the lagoon and no problem with mosquitos in August. Enjoy
chloe - i also skipped the meal plan for the same reasons. i like variety in my meals, but had to have a place i could get coffee and breakfast without making it myself! thanks again.
anybody used the dive shop at JE? it is PADI 5 star...but how are they? knowledgable, fun, helpful? i know some other shops are great, but this one is convenient to us. thanks
Hi Jane.... The dive shop at Journey's End is no longer a PADI 5 Star and hasn't been for a little while. I sure hope they didn't tell you that when you made your reservations.
