Now I am confused..... If I purchase or open a business I cannot work the business myself? I was in Coconuts the other day and
theo owner appeared to be working???? In another thread it was recommended that a new arrival open a business with no employees
in order to expidite thier ability to begin working.

Somebody please explain in small words & type your reply slowly so I can keep up....

Thanks

Steve you need to have required papers to work your business such as work permit or residency.

So until are able to ride out the waiting periods to get papers and be legal to work in your business, you will not be able to visibly work.

Ok, you own a business, and are here on your tourism visum. As long as your business comes with a considerable investment and provides work for Belezeans, immigration will not make a problem out of you working when you have already applied for your workpermit.

Owning a business is ok. Monitoring your investment is ok and a really good idea.

Talking an employee role in this business requires a work permit regardless of renumeration (getting paid).

Kinda like owning a limo service but not having a license to drive a limo, you need to hire a driver. You can't drive it until you have rec'd your license. You can ride shotgun though!

Hey folks!!

I have tried to contact the Belize consulate in Miami several times regarding this question. Apparently they are on tropical time as they never seem to be there...probably at the beach. I am trying to find out what my employment status would be as a doctor (Oriental Medicine) who would be self employed. From what I read here, getting a self empoyement permit might not be too difficult; esp. if my business would benefit Belize. I will try to contact the gov't. there. ITMT, any thoughts??

Ministy of Health would be a good Gov't branch to contact.
