Rubbish -all businesses will be able to change 1 100usd TC on San Pedro-20's are a pain in the rear-way to many things to sign and all ids to be put on the back takes forever

Use travelers' checks at hotels & dive shops etc, but don't think of using them with street traders or for small purchases in grocery shops, etc. Any more than you would back home. I can pretty well guarantee that most street traders would NOT accept travelers' checks, whether for $20 or more..

As for other businesses, P1 is absolutely right. There is considerable admin associated with accepting Travelers' checks, and $100s are way more welcome than $20s. He just has his own inimitable style in presenting himself!

Note - Amex TCs will be accepted as readily as most other $ TCs, but don't bring any other currency's TCs. And the Amex credit card is NOT universally accepted, whereas Visa and Master (virtually) are.

It's always a good idea to bring plenty of small bills along. Saves a lot of hassle.

When people ask a reasonable question about money-it should really be answered by someone who lives and has worked here-not by people who have squatted or lived in shop fronts-who ever would only go out with TC'S -most people budget for some cash and some credit cards-nobody cashes just one 20 dollar check-they will take a couple of hundred dollars out (min)-this counts for 98% of visitors to this island

Pedro, not always so. When we travel with travel checks, in 20 or 50 dollar increments, we only cash 1 or 2 at a time. Our needs are not that large.......so we don't see carrying around larger amounts of cash as a need to do thing.
We wait to the end of our trip to do all our shopping so we don't need the $ until then.

COMPROMISE! What a concept.
I just had guest here and they had US $50 and US $20 travelers checks. This worked out very nicely.
Don't be afraid to have some cash in your pocket. You probably won't get mugged if you are not flashing around a wad of dough and stay away from low-life bars. LOL
