Hi, I've been reading what you guys have been writing about Ramon's-- but we already put a downpayment on a seaside room. Is this a good idea, bad idea, what do you think? We're really just looking for a quiet place close to town to relax (and party) at. Any help is much appreciated!!

Heather I think you will be fine. I have not stayed at Ramon's, but I visited there, their bar is inviting, the pool is beautiful,
their beach is one of best in town, and their pier is
great, with artifical reef underneath, and a great place to get in a practice snorkeling.
You are so near town, it will be great for visiting all the good restaurants.

You will have a wonderful time! In spite of my comments about Ramon's it will be truly great. We stayed there the first time in SP and fell in love over and over again. That is what has drawn us back to SP over 25 times (5 times this year)

Since you are a Spartan (I'm originally from FLINT, Ugh, and spent a little time at MSU) we all know about disappointment. You will NOT be disappointed with SP.

Noticed that you are a reporter...started at MSU, finished at UM...Major...journalism. Never used it a single day. God bless that you have.

When you are there spend a little time looking around...some really great bargains are to be found. When are you going?

San Pedro is our "second home", there is no doubt that it will get into your heart and cause you to keep going back.

heather, i also agree. stayed there in 1993, and we had a lot of fun and made some nice friends there. just don't expect american standards of luxury. it was fairly quiet during the day. i saw pictures of their new pool (was very small before) and it looks magnificent! (see them on somebodys post, marty's pics?)the bailey's coladas were good,too. the fish under the pier are great, just put on your mask. when i was younger, it was a "neat place" to stay, but i wanted something differrent this time.

journalism major huh, my hubby too but switched to comp sci so he could earn a living!

Thanks, we're headed there in September (in between TV ratings) for a long awaited vacation. I can hardly wait to get there, and are already counting the days-- in fact, I'm downloading different AC island scenes for my computer each week to keep me in good spirits!

Yeah, E. Lansing makes for an interesting town-- glad I didn't go to school there-- after seeing the riots first hand I realized it's a bit too wild for me, but they do make big news stories. Choo, did you hear that U of M cancelled their J-school program? JinPA, your other half was smart, the long hours and pay do make life difficult-- I need to go count the penny jar now for the trip :-0

Any other suggestions for *must do* things on the island? Or what not to do. We're interested in diving, fishing (for him), and the nightlife. Hope to hear from you all soon, or maybe see you on the island! Thank you all for the input!

Heather do everything you can, the list of to do things is endless. There isn't anything that is offered that would be on your not to do list. Every tour is great.
Just renting a golf cart for half day is enjoyable, touring the whole town, and all the way south, and north as far as you can.
Checking out the other hotels and resorts.
Mingle with the locals, they are great people. Talk to Pisano, he is always on the beach, short white haired/beard man, with lots to say, just take the time to listen closely to understand him. The Palace Casino is a nice place to gamble at night.
Remember you are going to a paradise and it is magical. Some say it is a culture shock, well NOT, is laid back and easy to adjust to.

chloe, my friend, you are so right...its been seven years and it was only for a few days...we met this fun couple at ramones (we all stayed there) and rented a cart for a few hours, piled in, and video taped it. mind you, there was like nothing there then. it was the funnest time and i still laugh when i see the video!! the feeling of san pedro came on quick and lingered long....
