Has anyone stayed at The Hotel Mopan in Belize City? Just curious mostly about location and safety. I can't figure out if it is in the safe section or risky section. Looking for an economical rate for one night--already nixed Radisson, Great House, Princess, and Biltmore based on price. Thanks for any advice.

I've stayed at the Mopan a few times and it's okay. I even watched the Superbowl there once with Clinton Lightburn, better known as Pulu. They've ben doing some construction next door and the noise during daylight hours can be an issue. Call first and ask if the construction is finished, and if it's still going on, ask for a discount.

Been there twice each time for only one night but found it each time clean, nice, and without much drama. Sitting out on the balcony there isn't much activity below on the streets, but since we had been traveling all day for each stay we elected to have food delivered so I cannot speak to the safety. It is a short walk to the water terminal, which is the major reason we stayed there. The breakfast has been great each time too!
