We're coming for a first visit this December and I'm hoping that you can make sure that I don't look and sound even more the Gringo that I am so:

Please help on the pronunciation: I have seen only once where it was indicated that the middle syllable is emphasized... is that correct.

I do know that "caye" is pronounced as "key"... I think *grin*

Help...

You won't be able to not seem like a gringo so relax about trying not to. Amber gris ...am-ber-grees, -gris, Its an excrement from an infirm wale (Wale Vomit). Caye? I say caye not Key.
Have fun

You can find the pronunciation here...

and there is island music to listen to while you read!
The school teacher (retired) in me applauds you for wanting to know!!

Elbert is right. When you get to San Pedro, buy a "Just Another Gringo in Belize" teeshirt to wear and have fun!

Julian, many of us end up calling Ambergris Caye "AC" for short.

Ah - using AC - that would be too easy -- but I like it!

Interesting to know that there are at least two ways to say it.
