Hello, from Northern Michigan. It is the end of August and it is 65 degrees. My husband and I were wondering what the probability was if we just showed up on the island without reservations at the end of March. Would we get a room anywhere, do you think? I heard rates were really good when you do that.

March is one of the busiest months of the year in Belize and in San Pedro in particular. While it is rare to never that all hotel rooms are fully booked (even with recent jumps in tourism, Belize is averaging under 35% occupancy year-round), in March likely quite a few of the best hotels will be fully booked much of the time. You can find a place to stay, but you might have to accept third-best. I'd advise you book ahead then.

Walk-in rates are possible, but are mostly available in the off-season, not high season.

Thanks, Lan, for your early reply.....It was just a thought. We plan to stay at the Sunbreeze or Coconuts and are in contact with our travel agent at this very moment, to get reservations for 10 days. You guys are so lucky. We just love reading the posts and any info we can get on Ambergris Caye.

Just showing up in San Pedro without reservations is bad. The cab drivers are on the take in San Pedro. If they bring people to certain hotels, the cab driver gets a kick-back if the people have no reservation. I shared a cab with a young student going to visit a friend at St Matthews College, and the cab driver took us to some "tourist" hotels because they offer the kick backs. The visitor certainly doesn't have any bargaining power after traveling all day, and then is run around all over the island looking for a deal. Use Ambergriscaye.com, get some feedback from us idiots who have been through it, get a reservation at one of the hotels, what suits you, not Mr Che.
