Several home owners asked me to assess the damage at their houses, and here is a report, from North to South:

* Waldo, your house is ok, minor damage to the dock.

* Costa Maya: OK, trees damaged, some windows that weren't boarded up, and part of the dock and the palapa - dive shop is ok.

* Ann, Bill and Nancy: Gutter is gone, dock has split (whatever that means) and telephone cable is broken.

* Stann: All OK, thatch on the dock has gone. Cliff and Joanne stayed the night with Carla.

* Cliff and Joanne's house: OK, no damage, dock is a total loss though.

* Portofino: OK, some damage to the dock, few water leaks, but will be fixed by tomorrow morning.

* Jim: No damage, but the dock has lifted up where it comes on the seawall (as I told you it would).

* Will dock seems to be gone; haven't been South yet, but will do so later and report.

* Keane's house, spoke to the caretaker, and there is damage to the dock - the thatch and the end have gone.

I am new to this - it is one thing to sit and read, another to become an active participant! I am seeking any news of the status of Tobacco Caye in the aftermath of Dean. I noticed one other person inquired earlier but I haven't yet been able to dredge up any responses to the question.

Thank you Jan for these updates.

If you happen to walk furthur south towards Mata Chica, could you keep an eye open for our pier. It is two piers north of Mata Chica's pier. Before Dean it had a swim deck and large palapa on it. We just left San Pedro 3 weeks ago after spending a month enjoying our "brand new pier" and planning the building of our home. Oh, well. At least it sounds as though everyone is alive and healthy.

I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Your updates are wonderful! Have you had a chance to go further south than the Kean's house? In the picture you posted of Cliff and Joanne, my caretaker, Maria is there with Javier and Consuelo. I have not been able to contact her and determine the condition of our house and property. I am past the point of frazzled nerves here not knowing what has happened at our place.
Oh, and if you see Maria again, would you please tell her she needs to get in touch with Sonny and Marsha?

Went South till Playa Blance and here is the Damage update:

* Will Nunez' pier is gone, but no damage to the house. The beach has serious erosion damage though.

* JD, your house has got some Thatch damage at the veranda and the tip of the roof.

* Grey House: ok, the pool was being cleaned by the caretaker.

* Curtis house: big mess in the garden, but no damage, minor damage to the dock.

* La Perla: Also big mess in the garden, think they are all ok besides some thatch damage. The seawall is mostly gone, and the dock got lifted at the ramp - nice detail, the 2 ornamental flowerpots that where left on the dock are miraculously still there!

* Xaman Ek: Dock looks like it will have to be replaced now, no further damage, even the thatch roofs seemed intact.

* Kean's House: the end of the dock with the thatch has disappeared.

* Sally's house is ok, no damage, only the dock came up.

* Playa Blanca: no damage, not even the dock.

Had to turn back, as it is almost impossible to ride the beach by bicycle, and I have to get Portofino up and running by tomorrow.

That you Mike? It's Marsha at the white house immediately south of Playa Blanca. Brooke's mom. I haven't been able to get in touch with our caretaker, Maria and so we still don't know what kind of damage we got at our place or if our dog is ok. If you do talk to Javier, please ask him to have Maria contact us right away. And Jan.....if you speak to Javier, please ask him to tell Maria to leave the electric main breaker off until BEL is up and running for a while. I have some good UPC batteries for the computers but I just don't want to take a chance and from what I hear, the electric wires to the pier may be in the water.

Hey Jan....

Thanks so much for the photos. I appreciate you taking the time to send them to me. I was wondering in your walks, if you or anyone has seen the green bench that used to sit on the dock. I am the property next to what used to be Kitty's. It weighs a ton so who knows where it went, maybe in the water. If you see it, or anyone else sees it, have the time and manpower, could you please put it somewhere on the property. Again, what would I do with out you and your great staff at Portofino.
You are the greatest!
ANN

Good news Jan, I was at Diane Campbell's place today (where she gratefully housed the Saga cats and she had no power.) BEL is way ahead of schedule and deserves KUDOS for their work as does BTL. I'm also sure that Jim will do a top notch job in Corozal now that he's taken over NEMO there, they are in dire straits and need as much help as they can get (no thanks to CNN or the Weather Channel for next to no coverage.) Aid is coming in but no where what they need, Belize is NOT Mexico and the North needs much help!

I am Sorry Ann, I have looked everywhere (covered Costa Maya till Playa Blanca) but I can't find it. It must have drifted as it was made from wood. Sometimes the sea takes wood out over the reef during a hurricane - I have seen that during Wilma with pieces of my dock!
