We have some family members coming to San Pedro from 9/1/07 to 9/8/07. Does anyone have any idea if there will be any local diving or diving to the Blue Hole by that time? I think that most of the local dive operators temporarily left the area due to Hurricane Dean.

Also, any thoughts on visibility. I have never been in anything like a hurricane so I had no idea how long the water would have limited or no visibilty.

Sure, talked to BTIA on the phone this morning, and they said that most hotels will be up and running by Thursday, so so will the dive shops. We are receiving our first guests tomorrow morning, and the Restaurant is open as of lunch time.

Cre8, we were diving the reef off San Pedro during the 3rd week after Wilma tossed Cozumel and Cancun 2 years ago. There was a lot of particles in the water lowering the visibiliey some but it was ok. I imagine the reefs out on the atolls, like lighthouse, might clear up a little faster. I would think dive trips to the Blue Hole will depend on the wind, waves and weather that day which will have nothing to do with Dean. Im sure you will have a gr8 trip.

I was wondering the same thing. I am scheduled to arrive on Friday regardless of the diving.

I am very happy to see you were spared the worst of the storm. If we can not dive my wife and I were planning on coming anyway as this is the only time we both can take off at the same time. If you see two honkeys wandering around town looking for something to do we would love to volunteer to help anybody that needs 2 extra bodies for cleanup or repairs.

If there is computer damage I am a systems administrator by day and would me more than willing to barter my skills for some beer and some food.

Most dive shops will be functioning by Friday or Saturday. Water clarity will be poor for a week or so, but (I think) the deeper you go the better it'll get. I'll find out on Saturday!
