What a Dean dong of a hurricane! We were quite prepared here in Caye Caulker, live and learn from experience! A lot of residents evacuate as early as Friday and mostly on Sunday by the Caye Caulker Water Taxi, Tropic Air and Maya Island Air.

Dean came as close as 60 miles or closer to Caye Caulker, but indeed no MAJOR damage! The highest winds were a steady 50mph, gusting to approx 70mph. We have elec power and internet, but no cable. We are ready for visitors!

Blessings to all.

Wow! What wonderful news! Thank you! I've been to your beautiful island 3 times since I retired in '03 and hoping to be back in Oct./Nov. I've been so worried about my few but cherished friends there. You are the new owners? I look forward to meeting you :-)

We are so happy to hear that Caye Caulker suffered no major damage.
Does that include the south end of the island too?

Again as far we know, everyone is doing OK and back on Island time. Air travel is back on schedule and the Caye Caulker Water Taxi starts back on their regular schedule today. The Caye Caulker Village Council (as usual, Tiger on his bulldozer) were out and about early yesterday cleaning the streets. Some folks have emailed and asked: if hotels are open? All hotels are fine and ready for business.

Cheers,

Mo nd Irene

Irene, Thanks so much for the information on Caye Caulker. Its so hard to be away at a time like this and any news makes us feel a little less helpless. Sounds like its back to business as usual.
