You had me worried for a minute. I know how you guys in Tres Cocos have that North South confusion going on and thought it might be a new bridge over the cut.

Hey Elbert -
If you want to be considered "Up North" can we be called "The north side?"

That would still put you on the south side.
Its more than that
Tres Cocos is a Geographic Anomaly on the southern tip of Ambergris Caye. As you approach the area with a compass the needle begins to spin wildly.
They have Woolly Mammoth and penguin. It’s as if Rod Sterling has just introduced the community as being in a warp.'You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, of sight, of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into...da da da dum Tres Cocos Zone". The residents walk around with an odd smile talking about being on North Ambergris Caye. The houses are suspiciously absent of maps for fear there children will discover they are on the Southern tip of the Island. They put signs up saying ‘North Ambergris Caye’ and even have there phones listed as being in the North. They advertise to the outside world as being on North Ambergris Caye and name there business and neighbor associations names prefixed with ‘North’. It s a paradox situation which defies logic. Geologist and psychologist studying the area theorize the land mass under Tres Cocos is part of the Chicxulub meteor that struck 65 million years ago ending the era of dinosaurs on earth, and that radiation influences from the meteor along with and escaping gasses from the bedrock of the continental crust have caused humans living above it ( in Tres Cocos) to display some unusually symptoms and behavior such as obsessive directional impairment dysfunctions, sweaty palms and frequent urination..
Tourist visiting Tres Cocos are completely indoctrinated by the farce perpetrated by its residents and leave feeling and talking as if they really spent there vacation on North Ambergris Caye.

Escaping gases seem to originate from a dive shop located just north of Tres Cocos...

Just a few years back, Tres Cocos was as far north as you could conveniently wander, even though this area is on the extreme southern half of the island. With the old hand pull ferry and bad roads, being north of the San Pedro River was considered "North". In creole we refer to it as, "up di coas". Perhaps a better phrase for those wanting to be geographically correct.

With the "road" and bridge, Tres Cocos is a lot closer to town and much more south than it used to be. I can remember when Captain Morgan's was the end of the road and Journey's End was the end of your journey!

Pretty soon, Elbert will be "Central Beach" and everything north of Rocky Point will be "North Ambergris Caye".

Cheers,

SIN

By that time we will have succeeded in secession.
as in 'a particular neighborhood seeking to become a separate municipality from a larger town while still maintaining greater national ties'.

The article interested me, particularly when it said "half a million people pass from Belize to Mexico" in a year. In that, Belize has a population of 300,000, this must mean that there are a couple of guys making a helluva lot of trips across that bridge into Mexico each year.
