Sorry if this has been answered before, but I'm coming to AC for the first time in January and it is much cheaper to fly to Cancun from Boston, then take the bus. Is there a website where I can make reservations and how long does it take to get to Belize City? I know I can get a short flight to AC from BZE. Thanks.

its about 8 hours or so. just get a ride to the bus station and get the nicest bus (ie most expensive).

We checked out the busses, roads, etc., about a year ago and we are going to do it as well. It's about 160 per ticket cheaper to fly to cancun plus we want to see it as well. The busses and roads were in better shape then most of what we have in California. Probably just motel it in Corozal and then boat or fly over the next day. We are tentative for the first week of January. Please post, we will do the same who ever goes first. I did hear the free zone was a waste.

We took the bus from Cancun a year or so ago. We spent a night in Tulum on the way down, wouldn't bother doing that again. We arranged a transfer to pick us up at the bus station in Chetumal and take us to the airstrip in Corozal. There's no need to go to Belize City if you're heading to Ambergris.

We can also get cheaper flights to Cancun than to Belize City. We have made the bus trip MANY times. There are actually quite a few options and most depend on what time you arrive in Cancun. The trip from Cancun to Chetumal takes about 5 hours or so. We use a transfer service that is based in Corozal for the transport from Chetumal to the Corozal airport.

Like I said a lot depends on what time you arrive in Cancun. The last flight from Corozal to San Pedro is 5:30 p.m, so you have to determine if you can make it to Corozal for the last flight after the bus ride from Cancun or if you should stay someone along the route and pickup again in the morning.

The other option is to have the people with the transfer service pick up directly at the Cancun airport (kind of expensive, but if there are enough of you in the party to split the cost it is not bad). They can get you to Corozal a lot faster than the bus. We have done it both ways, depends on if you have an extra day at each end of your vacation that you want to use for travel.

If you get to Chetumal you can take a cab to Corozal and catch the Thunderbol at 7:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. to Ambergris Caye. I think it takes about 40 minutes but I am not sure.

First Class buses in Mexico are very cold because of the air conditioning...bring a jacket or blanket.

Just heard of some special pricing if anybody close to St. Louis, MO is thinking of making the trip to Belize via Cancun.
