We're flying in from Belize City to San Pedro this Saturday. Anyone have a preference on airlines to use? Are they about the same as far as type of plane and service?
They are pretty much the same. Same flight times, usually the same price, same terminal, same airstrip. I don't even bother to book passage in the slow season, if one has no seats, the other will.
I tend to use Maya, a lil' cheaper and I am friends with the owners. Both use the same Cesnas to fly the 20 mile or so commute to the island. Pretty much the same. Maya usually has less folks waiting in line.
SIN accidents are more likely to happen when a plane flys a LOT more often then say... a plane that DOESN'T! Maya runs late... I like to show up on time!
Hi - I have used Tropic on all but one of my flights to AC. The reason is simple. We were verrrrry late out of Houston on our third of fourth trip there and had made a reservation with Tropic on the 3:40 flight. The last flight to the island is at 5:40 and we did not land in Belize City until 6:00 and still had to clear customs. To our amazement there was an airplane waiting for the 9 people from the flight to take us to the island at 6:30. There were many sighs of relief. The schedule for the two airlines is identical from BZE; it is on the hour starting at 07:40 to 17:40. They both fly Cessna Caravans to the island which are relatively spacious 15 pasenger aircraft. Relatively spacious is a point of view. The individual seats are fine but if you tried to put 3 2 hundred pounders into the back row you would have to use a shoe horn.
