Ok, I am going to weigh in here.
I have owned property down on Maya Beach for a few years now. I have been tattooing for 21 years and in my present location for almost 16. I admit, out of all Belize I think that a tattooist would stand the least chance of starving on AC. I thought about building a studio on my land, but just the logistics of getting supplies on a regular basis boggled my mind. I use all disposable tubes and needles, so would have to get those shipped in regularly and pay duty. There are many other disposable items that are needed to run a clean and sterile tattoo shop that adheres to aseptic technique. All these would also have to be shipped in regularly. And pay duty/customs. Not only that, Belize's paper towel selection sucks (I know, I have tattooed friends there when I have visited) and any tattoo artist KNOWS how important good paper towels are to our business. (My shop, with 4 artists, goes through 4 to 5 8-packs of Viva a week). So, in order to run a sterile shop, and make enough to pay the bills, one would have to charge big-city US prices. Which is cool when the tourists are there, but what about when they are not?
I wish the person endeavouring on this venture luck, but I just hope they are running a sterile shop.
