Does anyone have a boat that would be willing to pick us up in Belize City and bring to San Pedro. We have 2 dogs, and one is a little too big to keep in a crate for normal avenues of transportation (i.e tropic air, water taxi). We would be willing to pay for the trip. Thanks alot

If you speak to the people at the water taxi, they should be able to accomodate you or send you to someone who can. If you have no success here that is.

When I helped a friend move to SP, we transported the dog (not in a crate) and other belongings via the water taxi... all went well. I forget if she had to buy the dog a ticket... I'm thinking that she didn't but if she did, it's cheap (compared to the full fare on Tropic).

Yep! We sure did, lol! You don't need to keep it in a crate on the water taxi. It was a lot of work and lots of laughs. Definately worth all the work THANKS again TQ.

Yeah, go with the Water Taxi, a private boat is nice but expensive!

"Any tips on acclimating dogs to island from life in the states." Make sure they're very well socialized (they'll meet LOTS of other dogs) and make sure you religiously give them heartworm meds.

Casa Paradise. For advice on acclimating dogs to the island...you won't need it. Disregard most of what your US vet might tell you about change of environment for moving dogs. My dog arrived and basically felt like she was in heaven. It was true paradise the minute she arrived. Simple adjustment, much more freedom, exercise, and places to go than in most areas of the US for dogs. Thanks for the compliment, she is a sweety. That was the day she was on the water taxi after we had been traveling nearly 15 hours.

and yes, do go to Pampered Paws for your dog products, food and treats. They are wonderful.

It does depend a bit on your dog's temperament. Ours is a furious hunter and we have had to really work on stopping her from killing all the hundreds of creatures we encounter on our walks. Also for her own safety we have to contain this as the chase leads into places full of ticks, rusty nails etc. She is happier than she has ever been. Also, learn the sypmtoms of tick fever so you can catch it early. It is easily curable if you catch it but I have known a few people who have ignored the symptoms and not taken them seriously and lost their dog.
