we are coming down at the end of the month (20-27) and I was wondering if the cruise ships are in on certain days of the week or how to find out. We are taking the kids to shark ray alley and don't want to run in to the crowds from the ships at the "touristy snorkel" sites.
thanks

The cruse ship tourist visits to Hol Chan /Shark Ray Alley have been banned.
It was overwhelming the site , not to worry.

Glad to hear but where are they taking them to snorkle

According to their website, Carnival is taking them to Turneffe and Goff's Caye.

Don't know about other crusie lines.

I can never remember which is better . . . safe? . . . or sorry?

I don't think Goff's Caye can support the cruise ship crowd!
Perhaps even less that Hol Chan/Shark Ray....

Pleased to hear that they aren't going to Hol Chan.

If you charter you own boat or if your group is and guide is willing, then going to sites on "off peak" hours is awesome.

I went to Hol Chan the other day. At lunch time - I was the one and only person there. Snorkelled around and enjoyed the wild life at my leisure. There were schools of fish that were acting as if I was just a part of the group.

I left right when a small boat with 4 people on it arrived. They told me that they even spotted a large turtle.

Enjoy....

Pity, Turneffe is my all time favorite snorkel spot, the reef beautiful and goes on and on, but shallow, prime target for standing on, and touching etc. etc. Even though, I am glad Hol Chan is off limits, as it makes it hard for our island guest to enjoy.

Amanda is spot on. At that time you should find it easy to charter a boat to your hours.
