We are planning on sailing out of Placencia in May of 2008. Is there any provisioning available there? What kind of restriction are there for bringing in some of our own food--mostly dinner items (steak, fish, etc).

there are 3 grocery store in the village, 2 real close to the docks. they have most all of what you need and will have someone bring it to the pier if needed.
i have had guests bring a full cooler of meat and they say it was no problem, but i can't say for sure.
there is also a fish co-op at the pier that can serve you sea food needs.

I have a provisioning list from Moorings. How does local provisioning in the village compare cost-wise and quality-wise?

Thanks for the info. Is there a list that has costs attached?

moorings most likely shops at the same store,, possibly adds to the cost, i don't know.
peckish caters to specilty items, not so much daily goods like rice, and are priced accordingly.
to get what you need/want,, you will have the best luck if you hit all the choices.

Thanks Barnacle. Is there anywhere to do all our provisioning? With Moorings we have to either pick all breakfasts, all lunches and some dinners--don't really need/want that much.

Just like San Pedro, you won't be able to find everything you want in one place, you'll need to set aside time in your schedule to shop multiple stores. Best thing to do is have your most experienced crew on the boat for briefings and have the rest run off with a shopping list. Most of the stores are pretty close to each other in Placencia so you can walk and buy and have them hold items and then grab a cab for the final pick up.

Fish co-op pier sounds great! Where is this in relation to the Moorings pier?

looking at the water at morrings, the coop is to your left about a block. at the base of the sidewalk, below the post office. just ask anyone.
peckish would realy be the only on needed a cab ride to.
you should have no problem getting food.
